Mordialloc Boating and Angling Club

 Update 12th January 2012

With strong winds and unsettled weather patterns the fishing as slowed some what.

Reports of plenty of garfish and yakkas are being caught. The snapper seem to have moved out to deeper water  around the eighteen metre mark.Whiting seem to be few at the moment and those that have caught them have had to work hard.Reports of salmon being caught off Parkdale are comming in mainly on the inner reef.Squid are slowly arriving with several being taken on fresh silver whiting and pink colored jigs. The brighter colored jigs seem to be working the best at the moment.

The first fishing comp.for the new year will be on Sunday 15th January 2012.Its our annual competition against Mentone RSL Boating and Angling Club and we are all invited back to the RSL for a barbeque.I look forward to seeing you all and I hope the weather is kind to us on the day.

 Update 10th December 2011

With Christmas fast approaching for some its already arrived.Below are some photos of the fish Chris caught on the weekend.Although the snapper are plentiful at this stage they seem to be moving out to deeper water and reports of fish in close are few.Martin and I tried in close on the inner reef the other evening but were not successful, how ever the number of species that we caught were high.Ranging from a Port Jackson shark to slimmy mackeral,a Banjo shark, pinkies and small flathead, not to mention the starfish. The Mordy pier is producing good catches of garfish and the squid are on the rise.

 Update 4th November 2011

Well finally the weather as settled and several members have had a chance to go fishing. Many reports of snapper are now coming in.Good numbers of  fish have been taken at the 15mtre mark and further. Russall and myself bagged out on Friday with ten snapper each and one flathead. The next day Chris and Martin had the same luck, only their  snapper were of a much larger size.Julian, a new member of our club had the same success and was rewarded with a 3.5kg snapper. Below are some photos of the fish caught.

The President did not  muck around. He had his quota within two hours. "Nice fish Chris".

Martin Smith was another member who had great success on the weekend. The photo shows just how much. "Well done Marty!"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Update 20th October 2011

Bad weather and strong winds have stirred up the bay and reports of snapper on the inner reefs are filtering in.

Russell and I went out Monday night to the 15mtre mark.Reports earlier indicated that numbers of snapper were congregating there and so we thought it would be the place to start. After some time and three small flathead later Russell's reel screamed and after a 15 minute fight he landed a 4kg snapper.Unfortunately that was the only one for the night, but a good start to the season.Below are some happy snaps.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Update 12th October 2011

Reports of snapper being caught are starting to filter in as the season starts to unfold. With a lot of bad weather of late its not hard to stay in bed rather then chase the big red.

Once again the last Fishing Comp was not fished due to the weather. The next Comp.is Sunday 16th October 2011 and with a bit of luck we can all get out and have a fish. For those of us who had the chance and braved the conditions of late and have caught fish please drop me line and share your luck with us.You can send photos and  story's to haza1@live.com.au

 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Update 25th September 2011

Well the first 2 competitions for the season have come and gone and neither have been fished.

With the weather as it is members are finding it difficult to get out and fish.

Land based anglers are enjoying a good run of salmon taken off the Mordy pier and because of this the garfish have dropped off. Its still early days yet and with a steady run of warm weather I am sure we will all be in amongst the fish.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Update 26th August 2011

As I mentioned last week there are plenty of garfish taken off Mordialloc peir. And pinkie snapper have been reported to be caught on the inner reefs from Ricketts to Blackrock.Best baits for the garfish:squid, silver fish under a pencil float. The pinkies are taking soft plastics and hard lures trolled in close.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Update 20th August 2011

Mordialloc peir is producing plenty of garfish at the moment and with the slight change in water   temperature it want be long before we see good numbers of squid. There are plenty of mullet in the creek still and reports of salmon and travally at the mouth at times. Its still to early to see the annual migration of snapper in this part of the bay but reports of snapper up to 3kg have been taken off Ricketts. For the diehard angler thats great news. With the weather being so cold and players comfort for fishing being 0, I have not updated this page for a while. With the weather changing I hope to keep you updated as reports come to hand.

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update 24th May 2011

With the colder weather upon us the flathead have come back and reports of good catches are coming in.

The creek has plenty of mullet and salmon are in numbers further out along the pier.

The last of the snapper are slowing but if you brave the cold there are plenty of juvenile pinkies to be had.

I will try to update you with more reports as they come to hand.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update 2nd November 2010

Once again the weather played a big part in determining wether we fished the 5th comp and just like the last it wasent fished. How ever Russell called me after work Monday and said lets go fishin. We headed out not knowing what the weather would throw at us,with 25 knot winds it wasent long before the sea got up.We decided to ride it out and a good thing happened we bagged out with five snapper each weighing from 1kg to 2.5kg.Below are some happy snaps of our catch.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update 19th October 2010

With bad weather again the fourth comp wasent fished. It hasent been a good start to the season.

Out of four comps this year weve only fished one and that was really a non event. With only a couple of fish caught.Over the next week or so im hoping to speak with the committee and try to organize some twlight comps in place of those not fished due to bad weather.Fingers crossed  we have better weather to do so.Until then "tight lines".

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update 20th September 2010

Well once again with the bad weather the second comp as come and gone and was never fished.

Once organized members who want to participate in the fishn comps will be notified as to when we will re schedule a particular comp if it wasent fished due to bad weather.

During the week one of the guys that run Fishn Fever caught a 60kg seven gilled shark off the mordy peer.Heres a photo  >>>>

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Update 5th September 2010

Well the first fishing comp has come and gone with out a line being wet. With the weather so bad im sure everything got wet.Lets hope we can fish the next one.Good luck to all!.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update 27th August 2010

Im sure by now most of you, like myself can't wait to get out fishing or just out on the water.

I coulden't help myself last Sunday the sun came out and so i decided to wet a line.I stationed myself at the small jety next to our slip.Using my pole i bought last year an some bread,it wasent long before i was landing some good size mullet. It was great fun and my two cats at home are still feasting on mullet fillets as we speak.

I look forward to seeing you all this season and your catch.Until then "tight lines"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update 4th August 2010

Well the weather as been freezing and the wind bad but for those who have braved the conditions salmon and squid have been the main catch aswell as the odd snapper.Russell and i managed to get out on friday to drift for squid. We caught one small one but because of work commitments and bad weather it was nice just to be able to be out there on the water. The weather is starting to change and i cant wait until the fishing season officaly starts.Im looking forward to updating this site soon.PS dont forget to email me your photos of your catch so we can all enjoy them.

Some whiting caught during the season.

I took this photo of a murray cod at the Melb Aquarium.

 Update 28th April 10

Once again the whether as been poor and for the last comp of the year it was bad. However Russell and myself ventured out anyway. It was about 6.30am Saturday when we arrived at the boat.It looked like the sky was going to fall in on us.We got out there and realized that we had the place to ourselves. We droped the anchor and started fishing.Plenty of small pinkies but no keepers. We decided to try a reef that has produced fish in the past and straight away i hooked a good whiting.Things slowed after that accept Russell caught a real good size squid witch came up chasing a small pinky that i'd hooked.By this stage the seas were building so we called it quits. There was no other boats out so there wasent a comp, but we had a good time anyway.

Hopfully i'll get a chance to go fishn threw winter and update this site as much as i can.If any of you get a chance please email me photos of your catch so as to add to the site.My email address haza1@live.com.au

Until then happy boating.

Update 20th April 10

The weather hasent been the best of late but several evenings have and reports of whiting been caught are many.

Russell and i were able to venture out on friday evening in the hope to bag out on some whiting in our favourite spot but not to be.However we did get plenty of garfish. The water at the moment are thick full of them.Between us we caught 3 good pinkies.1 whiting and a dozen garfish.

With the colder weather on its way im sure we'll start to see more catches of flathead as they move into the shallows.

Our fishing comp for the 11th April wasent held due to bad weather.

The last comp on the calander is Sat 24th April 10 and it would be really good if we could get as many members to fish it  as we can, weather permitting.Until then,"Tight lines".

Update 27th March 10

One of the attractions of our club is the fishing competitions we have during the fishing season.

To day we fished a comp and our target species where Whiting:Garfish:Heaviestfish:Flathead.

In that order you will recieve certain points for that specie.

Unfortunately the conditions werent great but that did'nt stop some members producing some nice fish.

This whiting caught by Martin won the day weighing in at just under half a Kg and measuring 45cm.Well done Smithy!

As a rule we have a barbeque at the weighin and swap stories about the one that got away(Hey Tony!).

But all and all it makes for a good day out on the water.

Update 25th march 10

Since christmas the whether we've had has been up and down. Not to mention the wind we've had.

For those that have had a chance to get out fishing, plenty of small pinkies have been had, whiting have been good but not with out some hard fishing.

Flathead seem to be on their way into the shellows.I was out last night with russell in 6mtr and managed to catch a nice size flathead myself. At the time the water was full of small bait fish and we both took delight in watching the pike jumping clean out of the water after a feed.

Here is a photo of how nice of a night it was:

So when you go fishing next, take your camera (or phone these days) and take some photos of your catch or anything to do with your trip and email me at (haza1@live.com.au).And maybe we can use it on our website.Good luck to all and i look forward to updating this site very soon.

Update 8 Dec 09.

The fishing should be great over the next couple of days.  With a good rainfall, and a falling barometer -

12:00am  - 1012.8 hPa  to   07:00am - 1007.1 hPa.

These are perfect conditions!  Just need the wind to behave and the fish to co-operate!
